In order to fully leverage China's large-scale market advantage and domestic demand potential, accelerate the promotion and application of magnesium based new materials, and build a development pattern of "dual circulation" mutual promotion in the domestic and international magnesium industry. On September 22, the 2020 National Magnesium Industry Conference and the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Magnesium Industry Branch were held in Xiaoyi City, Shanxi Province. This conference is hosted by the Magnesium Industry Branch of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and the People's Government of Lvliang City, organized by the Xiaoyi City People's Government and the Secretariat of the Magnesium Industry Branch of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, co organized by Shanxi Xiaoyi Economic Development Zone and Shanxi Dongyi Coal Electricity Aluminum Group Co., Ltd., with special support from the Fugu County People's Government. More than 400 experts, scholars, enterprise leaders, and technical personnel from the magnesium industry and related industries came to the conference to discuss the development plan of the magnesium industry.

  In his speech, Wen Jun stated that although the scale of China's magnesium industry is not large, magnesium occupies a leading position globally in terms of resources, products, production, and technology, making it a rare and internationally competitive variety among China's non-ferrous metals. He affirmed the development and progress of China's magnesium industry in recent years, but also pointed out that China's magnesium industry has not made breakthrough progress for many years and has not formed influential magnesium alloy products. He suggested that in the future development of the magnesium industry, firstly, we should continue to expand the application of magnesium in China, secondly, we should persistently focus on energy conservation, emission reduction, and technological progress in the industry, and thirdly, we should concentrate industry forces and increase research and development investment. I hope that magnesium enterprises can stand out and drive industrial development as soon as possible.

  Huang Yu stated in his speech that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology attaches great importance to the development of the magnesium industry and will work with relevant departments to promote the development of the magnesium industry from the following aspects. One is to promote the intensive development of the magnesium industry, expand and strengthen the smelting and processing industry, and create a leading enterprise that integrates the entire industrial chain. The second is to accelerate the green development of the magnesium industry, support the acceleration and improvement of the vertical pot magnesium smelting process, encourage the research and development of comprehensive utilization technology for magnesium reduction slag, and accelerate the green transformation of enterprises. The third is to promote the intelligent transformation of the magnesium industry and promote the integrated innovation and integrated application of the new generation of information technology. Fourthly, we will continue to accelerate technological innovation and expand its application, deepen upstream and downstream collaborative innovation, and increase the introduction, digestion, and absorption of key international advanced magnesium processing technologies.

  Gao Xiangyang introduced the achievements made in the development of the magnesium industry in Shanxi Province, the basic formation of an industrial innovation ecosystem, the continuous extension of the industrial chain, and the leading position of many enterprises in terms of technical level and industrial equipment in the industry. During the 14th Five Year Plan period, Shanxi Province will focus on building two aluminum magnesium industry clusters, Luliang and Yuncheng, to promote high-quality development of the magnesium industry.

  Liu Jinping introduced that Lvliang City has implemented the overall idea and requirements of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee's "four for, four for, and two for synchronization". In recent years, it has planned and designed the development path of the aluminum magnesium new material industry, striving to create a national ****** competitive electricity price depression and aluminum magnesium new material industry cluster. In 2019, the aluminum magnesium industry became a new engine of economic growth in Lvliang City.

Liang Zhiyong stated that Xiaoyi City is fully promoting the "Six New" projects, and a group of magnesium aluminum alloy enterprises represented by Dongyi Group have emerged, forming a complete industrial chain that integrates raw material preparation, magnesium product production, research and development, and sales. I hope to attract and drive more knowledgeable individuals to start businesses and seek common development.

  Subsequently, the meeting held a signing ceremony for the "Six New" project investment attraction in Xiaoyi City, signing contracts for six projects, including the magnesium alloy new material industry production base, the annual production of 60000 tons of solid waste disposal and utilization, and the annual production of 300000 tons of aluminum ore comprehensive utilization. The total estimated investment for the signed project is 2.72 billion yuan, including three new material projects of 2.12 billion yuan and three equipment manufacturing environmental protection and energy conservation projects of 600 million yuan. The successful signing of the project represents Xiaoyi City's adherence to the principle of "project as the king", focusing on breakthroughs in the "six new", deepening the three batches and taking a solid step forward.

  The keynote speech segment of the conference was presided over by Sun Qian, Vice President and Secretary General of the Magnesium Industry Branch of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association.

  Lin Ruhai wrote a report on "Seizing New Infrastructure Opportunities and Improving the Dual Cycle of Magnesium Industry". In terms of quantity, the Chinese magnesium industry accounts for half of both domestic and international cycles. In the domestic cycle of magnesium resources, magnesium smelting, magnesium alloys, and magnesium processing, there are various types of products, but the quantity is limited, which does not match the excellent performance of magnesium alloys. In the international cycle of exporting magnesium ingots and magnesium alloys, China mainly exports front-end raw material products. He stated that the magnesium industry should fully leverage the excellent performance of magnesium alloys, seize the opportunities of new infrastructure, expand applications, and elevate the application scale of magnesium alloy processing products to a higher level, improve the dual cycle of the magnesium industry, especially optimize the domestic cycle. Lin Ruhai proposed the direction for the future efforts of the magnesium industry: firstly, to establish a more comprehensive industrial chain; secondly, to establish a more coordinated internal circulation supply chain system; thirdly, to strive to build a high-quality magnesium industry value chain; fourthly, to build a virtuous cycle system between the real economy and the virtual economy; and fifthly, to build a virtuous cycle system between the magnesium industry and society.

  Sun Qian reported on the "2020 Annual Work Summary and Next Year Work Plan" of the Magnesium Industry Branch of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, reporting on the production, export, and market situation of the magnesium industry in 2020. He predicted that the original magnesium production in 2020 would be around 900000 tons, and the export volume would be around 400000 tons. Prices are expected to bottom out and rebound from October onwards. The report summarizes the main work of the Magnesium Industry Branch in 2020 and proposes the focus of work for the next year. The Magnesium Industry Branch will actively promote the magnesium industry to move towards high-end manufacturing and achieve high-quality development; Enhance independent innovation capabilities, enhance the core competitiveness of the magnesium industry, and accelerate the transformation of China's magnesium industry from large to strong; Implement the overall goals of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association as the "Home of the Nonferrous Metals Industry" and the "***************** Industry Association with Global Influence", further enhance the association's "three service" capabilities and levels, and provide guarantees for ****** to enhance the international competitiveness of the magnesium industry.

  Professors Zhou Xiangyang, Tian Xiaoning, and Wang Xu, the chief expert of the New Energy Engineering Research Institute of BAIC Group, from the School of Metallurgy and Environment at Central South University, respectively delivered keynote reports on "Reflections on Green Development of Magnesium Smelting", "Innovative Driving Force for Green Development", and "Energy Conservation and Lightweight Technology and Innovative Application Development of Electric Vehicles".

  The meeting will continue until the 23rd, and experts and scholars from universities, research institutes, China Institute of Nonferrous Metals Standards and Metrology, and magnesium and magnesium alloy related enterprises will bring more exciting special reports to the attending representatives.
